Kep1er are making a comeback with a daring new concept. On Aug. 19, the girl group released their seventh mini album alongside a new title track - both of which are called “Bubble Gum.” This came nine months after the release of their mini album “Tipi-Tap” in November 2024.
Kep1er are often known for their bright and girly concepts, but the group is now ready to show fans a more tough and confident side. In a livestream promoting the new mini album, member Kim Da Yeon said that in this new comeback, they are “unpredictable, playful, and charismatic.” They also show some villain-like charms, which fans can see in the music video for “Bubble Gum.”
In addition to the title track, the mini album includes a short opening song called “Taste Better,” two new tracks called “Don’t Be Dumb” and “Ice Tea,” as well as the Korean version of their Japanese single “Yum.”
In an interview with iMBC, Kep1er revealed that multiple members wanted “Don’t Be Dumb” to be the title track. Leader Choi Yu Jin shared, “The song has a catchy chorus. It’s one where the members can show our charms and put on a powerful performance.” Although “Bubble Gum” was eventually chosen, Yu Jin added that fans can look out for “Don’t Be Dumb” in extra content they release.
Aside from promoting their new mini album, Kep1er will be preparing for their upcoming tour, “Into the Orbit: Kep1asia.” Starting on Sept. 20, they will play shows in Seoul, Fukuoka, Tokyo, and Kyoto.
Kep1er were formed in 2021 on Mnet’s popular survival show Girls Planet 999. Although the group originally consisted of nine members, they are currently made up of seven members: Choi Yu Jin, Shen Xiao Ting, Kim Chae Hyun, Kim Da Yeon, Ezaki Hikaru, Huening Bahiyyih, and Seo Young Eun. The group is best known for their hit single “Wa Da Da.”
