Out of Control is a Norwegian short film directed by multi-award-winning director Ole A. Hagen. It tells the story of Anna (played by Hungarian actress Ágota Dunai) who discovers something in the Middle East, simultaneously uncovering a mysterious necklace that belongs to a powerful organization. They take control of her life little by little and Anna fights back to reveal their secret and gain liberation.
Also starring actors the likes of Dariia Kozakova, Lorre Michell, Eirik Sætre Hove, and Sonja Mathisen, Out of Control takes us on a thrill ride in an action-packed narrative. One of the film’s greatest strengths lies in the actors’ electric synergy that keeps your eyes locked on the screen.
They lead us through the ebbs and flows of the story, with a large focus being placed on the extremely relevant theme of the line between the digital world and reality.
This goes hand-in-hand with the captivating cinematography packed with dynamic shots that make you feel like you’re in on and part of the action. Additionally, with extraordinary editing in the mix, each scene is more exciting than the last, keeping you on your toes (or should we say clutching to your popcorn?)

Despite not having been released that long ago, Out of Control has already achieved wild success and recognition. The short film has accrued sixteen film festival wins and two nominations from all over the world including three awards at the “Bridge Fest” in Vancouver, Canada, various wins at festivals and awards ceremonies such as the “Sweden Film Awards”, “Reale Film Festival”, and in countries including Greece and India.
These awards span across several categories including Best Short, Best Thriller, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Actress, proving how well the film was executed on all fronts.
This success is not unfamiliar to director Ole A. Hagen as he has seen similar success with his previous productions including films like “Take It Easy On Me.” His previous film earned over forty awards and twenty selections all over the world, including at big league festivals such as the “Triloka International Filmfare Awards”, “Blue Bird Film Festival”, and more. These categories also included Best Drama, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Edit, and Best Actress. This just goes to show how any production Hagen touches turns to gold as an all-rounder production with high quality in every aspect.
With a stellar eye for a good narrative and a knack for gripping storytelling through all aspects of film production, there’s no doubt that Hagen is a legend in the making as he continues to shine a spotlight on the power of Nordic cinema.
