Meet the Artist
The StrangerS is the first anonymous online band that was founded in November of 2022. Based in Nowhere, Oklahoma, the group is made up of members whose identities remain unknown. The only constant member is Mad MahuLL, the mastermind behind the band, who has worked with hundreds of musicians worldwide.
You might be asking yourself why the last letter in the group’s name is a capital S. This is to distinguish them from other bands that might have a similar name. But you won’t need that distinction because their sound is already unique as it is. Their sound blends hard rock anthems with 80s influences, incorporating a contemporary edge. If you want powerful guitar riffs, thunderous percussion, ethereal synths, all locked together with emotive vocals, then The StrangerS is your go-to band.
Meet the Music
To get into the origin story of their latest EP, Out Of Time…Mad MahuLL recalls the old 4-track recording tapes from Tascam back in the day, that his old band had in their practice room in the 90s. One of his friends gifted one to him and he challenged himself to record his songs using it. Thankfully, songs recorded this way have a strong reputation, which adds anticipation for the new release.
The Out Of Time EP fits the sound aforementioned. It also serves as a testament and protest against the over-produced music that gets heavy radio play wherever you go today. Out Of Time aims to be authentic and include all of the grit that is key to the genre.
Consisting of 4 tracks, namely ‘Out Of Time’, ‘In Vain’, ‘Old Seaman’, and ‘Smoke And Ashes’, the album immediately captures your attention with its crisp but simultaneously hazy retro and ear-penetrating (in the best sense of the word) sound that fills your eardrums.
The first track, of the same name, ‘Out Of Time’ starts with the catchy and melodic voice of a female vocalist who has a pretty vocal color, evident in her vocal runs, that gives the song an optimistic and whimsical edge. It sounds like the type of song that could easily be part of a feature film’s soundtrack.
‘In Vain’, this time with a male vocalist, starts off with a captivating guitar riff and flows into a melody backing vulnerable lyrics that lay it all out on the line.
‘Old Seaman’ is quite narrative-rich, taking us on the singer’s journey which implies being on the run and giving main character energy at the same time. It’s the type of song that would be perfect to symbolize a hero’s journey.
‘Smoke And Ashes’ mellows out the album, with heartfelt and deep guitar strums, a gradual buildup that builds musical anticipation, and a melody that gives the listener a sense of catharsis.
Out Of Time presents some serious gems that will add color to the already rich discography that The StrangerS band has.
