First things first, this season was a mess, literally, in terms of production – Lee Si An and her men (yes, plural) took up all the screen time. While we’ve seen this before in other seasons with Shin Seul Ki, Song Jia, and Kwang Hee… This season seemed particularly extreme because the other contestants literally almost had no screen time in the second half of the show.
We can understand that Si An is a catch (although as this writer kept watching, she wasn’t so sure anymore), but there were other love lines or contestants that didn’t get the time of day.
For instance, at some point the contestants mention that Jeong Yu Jin might take Jang Theo to Paradise with her, but that’s news to us as viewers. Their friendship gets zero screen time and we’re not even given the chance to ship them.

While screen time is one issue, we also have the classic case of the best contestants on the show being overlooked. We won’t get into the colorism that is likely at the bottom of Bae Ji Yeon not being popular among the boys despite having arguably the best personality and visuals among the girls… We’ve seen it before on previous seasons with people like Kang So Yeon and Park Se Jeong being overlooked for what we suspect is a similar reason…
But the really mind-boggling point is how Theo, as cheesy as he is, ends up in the friend zone besides being the literal best boy of the season. This paired with Si An’s dating rollercoaster between a guy who is literally everything she wants (i.e. Kim Jeong Su) and a guy who is literally the opposite of what she wants but who she is attracted to (i.e. Yook Jun Seo), the headaches kept coming during this season.

With Single’s Inferno Season 5 confirmed for production in 2025, we hope that the production team can level the playing field a bit more and give us more diverse contestants and show us more diverse love lines.
